Kira Thomas

Kira is a recorder player, oboist and mezzo-soprano who specialises in renaissance wind instruments. She studied BA Music and Psychology at Bath Spa University, focusing on baroque and contemporary music and winning the 2018 award for solo performance. Kira then went on to complete an MA in Music Performance on the recorder, studying with Rebecca Prosser. It was during this time that Kira developed an interest in renaissance music, and received bursary places to study with The City Musick at Dartington International Summer School and at Jackdaws. Alongside her MA, Kira was awarded a choral bursary by Bath-based choir Paragon Singers, along with the Jennifer Skellett Bursary by Bath Spa University to assist with her further education.

Kira now acts as a visiting lecturer at Bath Spa University and performs regularly with several groups such as acclaimed early music ensembles Sirinu and the Favonius Collective. She is also a member of both the Baggeshotte Waits and the Weston Wyndes who perform at historical events across the country. When not playing early music, Kira regularly undertakes session work on the oboe and cor anglais and plays as part of the woodwind duo Minerva Winds who specialise in double reed instruments from medieval through to contemporary.
